About Us

Prairie Village operates under the mayor-council form of government with an appointed professional city administrator. The city is divided into six wards; two council members elected from each ward serve staggered four-year terms on the city council. The mayor is elected from the city at large for a four-year term. The mayor and 12 elected council members serve as the legislative and policy-making body of the city. The mayor and council provide leadership, vision and direction for the staff and city resources. Council meetings are held on the first and third Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m., usually at the municipal building located at 7700 Mission Road. The city administrator is responsible for management of all city programs and departments in accordance with policies and annual budgets adopted by the council. The city provides service in the areas of administration, community development, public works, police, municipal justice, community programs, and parks and recreation. In addition, the City of Prairie Village has several volunteer advisory committees.
