Performs complex, technical work associated with the maintenance of the City’s water/wastewater infrastructure; this includes planning, scheduling, and coordinating work assignments, as well as ordering and maintaining appropriate inventory. Assists with ensuring effective and efficient maintenance activities. These activities include the development of corrective, preventative, predictive, and condition-based maintenance procedures. Areas of responsibility may overlap with other divisions within the Municipal Services Department. This position will be in the on-call rotation for the water treatment plant.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED; and a minimum of 5 years of experience in water/wastewater operations and/or maintenance; or, any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Must possess a valid State Driver’s license. Must obtain Missouri DNR Class “D” Wastewater operator Certification or Class “D” Water treatment operator Certification within 6 months. Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of mechanical systems maintenance and operational procedures related to wastewater/water treatment; evaluating and prioritizing service requests and work orders related to wastewater/water treatment; safety regulations and regulatory enforcement procedures related to wastewater/water industry; principles of biological and chemical sciences; recordkeeping and report preparation; computer applications related to the work. Skill in researching, compiling, and summarizing a variety of informational materials; observing environmental conditions and assimilating information; writing technical reports and correspondence; communicating clearly and effectively with others both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people; ability to select, develop, organize, motivate, and effectively utilize staff and to plan, organize, assign, review, and evaluate the work of staff; ability to compile, analyze, and evaluate data.
Physical Demands: Standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
