The Legal Specialist is a crucial role within the Wyandotte County District Attorney's Office, providing essential support to Assistant District Attorneys in handling a variety of violent, non-violent criminal and juvenile cases. This position requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to manage a fast-paced, high-volume workload. Incumbent will also be responsible for answering a high volume of incoming calls in a professional manner and must have the ability to handle numerous inquires, file requests and other office tasks.
Responsibilities:
Case Management: Intake and file cases, handle appeals, and provide ongoing support to Assistant District Attorneys including but not limited to P advanced support in handling complex cases and special case types (e.g., CINC, Care in Treatment, Forfeitures.)
Legal Research: Research and analyze legal documents, statutes, and case law to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
Document Preparation: Prepare, review and file a high volume of legal documents accurately and efficiently, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
Court and Agency Coordination: Coordinate with courts, law enforcement, and other community partners to ensure timely and efficient case processing.
Community Engagement: Participate in community outreach activities, such as school reading groups, expungement fairs, career day, etc.
Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality of sensitive case information.
Administrative Task: Interact with public, provide customer service to community members, data entry and other duties assigned
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to handle a high-volume workload and meet deadlines.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in a legal or administrative role.
Knowledge of legal terminology, procedures and criminal justice system.
Minimum of 2 years as a Legal Specialist I and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Associate’s degree or Paralegal certification.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
Ability to travel to various locations within the metro area as needed.
Ability to bend and lift to 10lbs.
Working Conditions:
Work environment may be stressful due to the nature of the work.
May be required to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Exposure to Sensitive Content. Be prepared to handle exposure to sensitive information, such as testimony, video, child abuse, sexual assault, and homicide crime scene photos.
