The Dispatcher is responsible for answering phone lines and handling the 9-1-1 system and dispatching and monitoring all emergency crews.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Maintain and operate Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) computer system, National Criminal Information Center (NCIC) terminal, 911 enhanced system.
- Answer all incoming 911 calls for the county.
- Determine type of emergency and service required.
- Relay info to appropriate first responder agency.
- Dispatch fire departments, county units, Hillsdale, game wardens and the City of Louisburg.
- Coordinate with outside agencies for appropriate response and information sharing.
- Enter, receive, and disseminate NCIC information.
- Assist public with their concerns and determine their non-emergent needs.
- Monitor weather and report, dispatch storm spotters as needed.
- Maintain and operate Records Management System (RMS) for records.
- Enter warrants, protection orders, stolen articles, vehicles, etc.
- Operate and monitor several radio channels.
- Assist citizens with Everbridge system.
- Weekly 800 state radio test
- Process employee background checks.
- Running Triple I information
- Maintain and operate the mobile command center.
- Maintain a clean work area.
- Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC) duties.
- Audit and validate warrants, person files, article files and property and vehicle files.
- Storm siren testing.
- Complete training through the Bridge application.
- Enter and maintain sex offenders. Perform audit and validate all sex offenders
- Peer support training.
- Maintain protection from abuse orders.
- Participate in Text to 911 training twice yearly
- Attend continuing education training through Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) or Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO)
- Maintain NCIC certification
- Dispatch from command center for special events.
- Teach and present cell phone sally program to local schools.
- Appear in Court as required.
- Assist with severe weather reporting.
- Mass email/text/phone notification of life altering events.
Position Requirements:- Must be 18 years of age with no felony criminal record or domestic violence record.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; 1-3 years dispatch experience preferred
- Must be able to work varied shifts.
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Knowledge:- Computer software programs and applications such as MS Office.
- County and/or city government administration.
Skills:- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to interact in a positive and professional manner to develop and maintain strong working relationships with co-workers, management, and general public.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate goals, interests, and positions during discussions.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize.
Abilities:- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents and/or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and/or the general public.
- Ability to operate computer programs/software/platforms, to include:
- Ability to use basic office equipment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
