The Equipment Operator II performs a variety of skilled duties associated with the operation of all equipment including, but not limited to, tandem trucks, track and rubber excavators, motor graders skid steer loaders, asphalt paver, asphalt roller, chip-spreader, mowers in the repair, maintenance and construction of County roads, bridges and right of way. Truck drivers perform a set of skilled duties in the operation of a tandem dump truck for the purpose of delivering materials to jobsites and for snow removal during winter operations. Works under general supervision.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Operation of equipment in road construction and road maintenance including but not limited to tandem trucks, track and rubber excavators, motor graders, skid steer loaders, asphalt paver, asphalt roller, chip-spreader, mowers in the repair, maintenance and construction of County roads, bridges and right of way.
- Monitor condition of equipment and perform routine maintenance of assigned equipment including lubrication, checking of all fluids. Records maintenance, usage, and time logs.
- Assure assigned vehicle/equipment is checked on a “walk around” inspection including the levels of the lubricants.
- Maintenance of equipment (Weekly Interval).
- Drives semi-trucks with a low-boy trailer for the movement of equipment in the County.
- Operates front end loader to load material into tandem trucks.
- Works in the Noxious Weed building accepting household hazardous waste materials.
- Maintenance and washing of equipment (monthly Interval).
- Operation of tree and brush removal power tools (chainsaw).
- Operation of asphalt paver, asphalt roller, asphalt oil distributor, broom, and chip-spreader.
- Snow and ice removal operations.
- Trains less experienced personnel in the operation of assigned equipment.
- Flag traffic passing or around work zones.
Truck driver duties:- Deliver materials to and from jobsites.
- Ensure that assigned truck is checked on a walk-around inspection as well as checking the levels of lubricants.
- Operation of a wheel loader to load materials into assigned vehicle.
- Assist in the servicing and cleaning of the assigned vehicle.
- Operate a plow/and tandem truck during winter events.
Position Requirements:- High School Diploma or equivalent required; plus 1-3 years related experience generally preferred.
- Valid driver’s license
- Class B CDL required.
- Class A CDL required with tanker endorsement preferred, to operate semi-tractor trailer.
Knowledge:- Operating procedures for all equipment assigned.
Abilities:- Ability to operate heavy equipment skillfully and safely and according to traffic laws and regulations.
- Ability to read, comprehend and apply instruction manuals, drawings and to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors when inclement weather conditions exist.
- Ability to use and maintain the tools, materials and equipment used in construction and maintenance activities.
