Under the direct supervision of the Asst County Administrator, the IT Systems Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of the county’s IT infrastructure, including servers, workstations, network devices, and software applications. This role ensures the reliability, security, and performance of the IT systems, providing technical support and troubleshooting to end-users and other IT staff. This position performs a variety of technical tasks in the area of computer systems and networks.
The IT Systems Administrator is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and security of county intranets and computer systems. Duties include assigning and maintaining user access, installing and maintaining software, responding to employee concerns relating to IT, troubleshooting IT issues, and writing policy documents and training materials for employees. Manages servers, network equipment, and other related IT infrastructure.
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Evaluate, select, and implement software solutions that align with departmental and organizational needs, ensuring compliance with municipal standards and policies.
•Provide ongoing technical support for enterprise applications, including troubleshooting, user assistance, and issue resolution across departments.
•Plan and execute software upgrades, patches, and migrations to maintain system security, performance, and compatibility.
•Collaborate with vendors, IT staff, and stakeholders to manage software licensing, renewals, and service agreements.
•Monitor system performance and usage to identify opportunities for optimization and ensure high availability of critical applications.
•Maintain documentation for software configurations, procedures, and support protocols to ensure continuity and knowledge sharing.
•Ensure software systems adhere to cybersecurity best practices and municipal data governance policies.
•Troubleshoot end user problems and provide solutions.
•Configure and deploy new PCs at different intervals throughout the year.
•Respond to department IT related requests, including the IT processes for onboarding and offboarding of county employees.
•Identify, prioritize, and assign work tasks to IT staff to ensure the appropriate and timely response to employee / department IT issues and inquiries.
•Identify and assign IT training to county employees as necessary for infrastructure and security compliance.
•Collaborate with county leadership on department and organizational goals, guides department operations in alignment with the overall goals and objectives.
•Ensures the execution of efficient processes to maximize county and department resources.
•Effectively communicates strategies internally and externally; creates a culture to support strategies and provides mechanisms to implement them.
System Management:
•Install, configure, and maintain software and hardware.

Network Management:
•Configure and maintain network infrastructure.

Infrastructure Management:
•Manage servers, network equipment, and other related IT infrastructure.
•Coordinate with other IT professionals to ensure systems are integrated and functioning correctly.
Other:
•Research and recommend new technologies and solutions.
•Manage backups and disaster recovery procedures.
•Develop and maintain documentation and training materials.
Position Requirements:
•High School Diploma or equivalent required
•Associate or bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field preferred
•Three to five years’ experience in related field, preferred.
•Industry recognized certifications (e.g., CompTIA, Microsoft) are preferred.
•Valid driver’s license required.
Knowledge:
•Computer software programs and applications such as MS Office, Microsoft Server, SQL Server.
•County and/or city government administration.
•Strong understanding of computer hardware, software, and networking principles.
•Experience with various operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS).
