The Journeyman Lineworker is responsible for constructing, maintaining, and repairing overhead and underground electrical distribution systems for the City. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of electric service to customers and is expected to respond to outages, perform routine maintenance, and support capital improvement projects. Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Electrical System Construction and Maintenance
- Construct, maintain, and repair overhead and underground primary and secondary electrical lines.
- Set poles, string wire, install transformers, capacitors, and other line equipment.
- Perform troubleshooting and restoration of service during outages.
- Install, inspect, and maintain street lighting and area lighting systems.
Safety and Crew Leadership
- Follow and enforce safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA, APPA, and industry standards.
- Set up safe work zones and ensure public and crew safety at all job sites.
- Lead by example and assist in training and mentoring apprentice lineworkers.
Equipment and Tool Operation
- Operate line trucks, digger derricks, bucket trucks, and other specialized electrical line equipment.
- Inspect, maintain, and safely operate all tools and vehicles assigned to the electric department.
- Perform daily equipment checks and report defects to supervisors.
Service and Customer Support
- Perform service connections and disconnections as required.
- Conduct field investigations for customer service issues, including voltage complaints or outages.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers, residents, contractors, and other city departments.
