JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Kansas City, Kansas (KCK) Environmental Services Division is seeking a Utility Maintenance Mechanic II to join the team at the Kaw Point location. The Utility Maintenance Mechanic II is the second step in a three-step Utility Maintenance Mechanic series, distinguished by prior experience in performing maintenance, operation, and repair work on equipment and facilities. This position performs skilled and semi-skilled work under technical direction and assigned tasks from a Utility Maintenance Mechanic III, supervisor, and/or manager.
This is a DOT-regulated position, and employees are required to comply with all applicable federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform maintenance, operation, and repair of utility equipment, machinery, and facilities
Assist with troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and operational issues
Conduct inspections of equipment and facilities to ensure safe and efficient operation
Perform preventative maintenance to reduce equipment downtime
Use hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment safely and effectively
Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used
Follow all safety procedures, policies, and DOT regulations
Work collaboratively with supervisors, mechanics, and other division staff
Perform related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED (required).1 or more years of relevant experience(required).Any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Class B driver’s license with tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire. Class I KWEA collections or KDHE operations certification within 3 years of hire date. Ability to lift, carry, and drag objects weighing up to 100 pounds. Must be able to stand, sit or walk for extended periods of time. Ability to work with exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel. Ability to analyze work conditions, recognize safety hazards, and correctly respond. Ability to work independently, in teams, and carry out assignments through oral and written instructions.
