Job Scope Directly supervises staff which may include full time and/or part time employees, volunteers and contract professionals for recreation programs, classes, facilities and events as assigned. Recommends actions related to hiring, disciplinary actions, advancement, or other changes in employee status. Responsible, with direction and oversight, for the preparation, administration and monitoring of the assigned budget(s). Recruits, selects, supervises, trains, and appraises volunteer personnel and part-time personnel in the assigned areas. Maintain accurate payroll records. 2. Develops and implements a diversified and comprehensive recreational program in assigned areas, which may include, but is not limited to: instructional, travel, fitness, athletics, health and wellness, enrichment, social, or other areas based on community demand. 3. Promote assigned division activities and programs. 4. Schedule classes, programs, facilities, special events and activities in assigned areas. 5. Evaluate activities in assigned areas through observation and direct contact with participants as well as by written surveys. Determines needs for specific activities and programs in assigned areas. 6. Monitors and oversees marketing efforts for assigned facilities and programs, including the use of social media platforms, to maximize exposure for facility events, special events and activities; works collaboratively with Marketing and Communication Manager for large-scale marketing efforts. 7. Responsible for updating and maintaining the website, social media and other event pages for assigned areas. 8. Assures proper equipment is available for setup and takedown for each activity as assigned. Maintains up-to-date inventory of supplies. 9. Maintains daily cash receipts and is responsible for the opening and closing of facilities, as needed. 10. Maintains personnel, payroll records and master files on each program and/or facility as assigned. 11. Responsible for preparing work schedules and assignments for direct reports. 12. Ensures the enforcement of park and recreation rules and regulations. 13. Perform those activities necessary to ensure the safety of participants. 14. With direction and oversight, assists in the preparation of the budget for assigned programs and/or facilities. Determines cost effectiveness of assigned programs and/or facilities by analyzing revenues, expenditures, attendance and service hours. Ensures compliance with approved budgets. 15. Purchases necessary program supplies and equipment using department procedures. 16. Develop instructional or recreational curricula for assigned programs and/or facilities. Performs teaching of programs as needed. 17. Coordinates volunteers for recreation programs and special events (coaches, etc.) 18. Collaborates with other divisions of the Department in order to ensure delivery of service consistent with Departmental missions and objectives. 19. Responsible for securing service providers on a contract basis for the provision of services related to assigned programs and activities; responsible for ensuring service provider compliance with contractual responsibilities. 20. Receives, collects and compiles patron feedback and comments regarding programs, facilities, and events; responds to and reports patron feedback and comments according to established procedures. Performs all other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: 1. A bachelor's degree or equivalent in Parks and Recreation Administration or a related field is required; at the discretion of the Department, 6 years of direct experience may be substituted for 4 year degree; or a combination of education & experience may be considered. 2. Minimum one (1) year experience working in the field of Parks and Recreation or related field and experience in leadership preferred; and, 3. Basic first aid, CPR and AED certification required within three (3) months of date of hire. 4. A Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred.
