GENERAL PURPOSE:
Under general direction, performs a variety of Firefighter/Paramedic tasks andmaintaina high level of self-motivation for self-improvement and advancement within the department. Personnel will be assigned to a shift and station as designated by the Fire Chief working under a normal assignment consisting of twenty-four-hour tours. They are responsible to and reports directly to the Station Captain. Personnel are directed by departmental guidelines and direct supervision of the Station Captain. Performance will be periodically evaluated and reviewed by Station Captains, Battalion Chiefs, and Training Chief.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties as assigned.
- Assume patient care and perform ALS procedures while effectively directing other team members during all types of EMS responses.
- Other various support functions include daily station, apparatus, and equipment inspections and general preventative maintenance.
- Driving approved and assigned department vehicles under emergency and non-emergency conditions.
- Participates in various other activities during tours of duty such as public relations/education, safety inspections/pre-plan activities, department/company training and other special assignments as assigned.
- Skills and knowledge of department operations.
- Ability to perform ALS care and treatment of EMS patients such as, IV insertion, ETT placement, EKG interpretation, etc.
- Knowledge of response districts.
- Good knowledge of departmental Rules and Regulations, standard operating guidelines, and Protocols.
- Ability to clearly and calmly communicate with peers, officers, patients, public, and others under stressful time sensitive situations.
- Ability to perform all functions of the job calmly and competently under various conditions including stressful, loud, unpredictable scenes with the possibility of harsh and adverse weather conditions.
- Conduct sporadic highly physical demanding assignments such as lifting heavy equipment, patients, etc.
- Ability evaluates, discriminate, and react during changing emergency situations while not under the direct supervision of superior officers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Possess a valid Driver’s License.
- First aid principles and practices.
- Structure, organization and inter-relationships of city departments, agencies, and related governmental agencies and offices affecting assigned functions.
- Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and statistical databases.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support
- Current AHA Basic Life Support
Physical Requirements:
- Mustpossessthe physicalstrength andagility necessaryfor tasks likeliftingandmovepatients safely, pushing/pullingstretchersand climbing stairs. Must also have fine motor skills for procedures,vision and hearing to appropriately conduct assessments.
