JOB DESCRIPTION:
Public Works is seeking an Information Systems Coordinator to operationalize asset data for informed capital planning, streamlined field data collection, and efficiencies in daily operations. This role will serve as a subject matter expert on work order and project management data, supporting the Asset Management team within Public Works. This position will support the implementation and optimization of the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and geographic information systems (GIS). The position provides database administration for core Public Works software and focuses on data design, integration challenges, and coordination of system upgrades. Working closely with field crews, UG administration, and the public, the role will build and maintain data pipelines that improve customer service and public information sharing. The position will also customize ArcGIS Portal data, applications, and maps to meet Public Works’ operational and reporting needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the subject matter expert for work order, project management, and asset management data across Public Works.
Support implementation, configuration, and ongoing optimization of the CMMS for Environmental Services and other PW divisions.
Administer and maintain databases for core Public Works software systems, ensuring data integrity, security, and usability.
Design and manage data models, integrations, and workflows between CMMS, GIS, and other enterprise systems.
Coordinate system upgrades, enhancements, and testing with internal teams and external vendors.
Develop and maintain data pipelines that support reporting, analytics, customer service, and public-facing information.
Customize ArcGIS Portal content, including data layers, dashboards, applications, and maps, to meet operational and strategic needs.
Collaborate with field staff to streamline mobile and field data collection processes.
Provide technical support, documentation, and training for CMMS and GIS users.
Translate business and operational needs into technical solutions that improve efficiency and decision-making.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field and three years of programming, system analysis, or work experience related to area of assignment or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Five years of experience as a database administrator preferred. Two years of experience and training in the use of GIS software (preferably ESRI ArcGIS Pro) and necessary hardware preferred. Advanced information technology troubleshooting skills. Knowledge of GIS and CMMS use within a utility or government organization is preferred. Desired software knowledge: Lucity (Central Square) or other CMMS, Access, SQL, Python, Crystal Reports, ESRI Suite; ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Portal, ArcGIS Online, Field Maps, Excel, Notepadd++, basic HTML. Map document/map services design skills. Experience in field survey data collection. Interested in predictive analytics and machine learning. Must possess a valid Kansas Driver’s license.
