Job Description:
The Public Works Fleet Division is seeking a skilled Fleet Maintenance Technician to join the Fleet Services team. This position is responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance and repair services on all sizes of Unified Government-owned vehicles and equipment. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver with expertise in diagnosing and repairing gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, suspensions, and hydraulic systems. This role plays a critical part in keeping the Unified Government’s fleet safe, reliable, and ready to serve the community.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform maintenance and major repairs on gasoline and diesel engines, manual and automatic transmissions, differentials, brakes, suspension, electrical, fuel, cooling, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Perform chassis and suspension repairs, including alignments.
Perform tire inspections, repairs, and replacements on automotive and equipment vehicles.
Conduct automotive and equipment air conditioning service and repairs.
Perform welding and fabricating functions as needed.
Repair small engine equipment and components.
Provide emergency road service, towing, and on-site repairs when required.
Operate equipment as directed during emergency situations within Wyandotte County.
Assist other technicians with complex repairs and special projects.
Maintain and service car wash systems, fuel pumps, gates, and other Fleet-related equipment as assigned.
Adhere to all safety protocols and departmental policies to ensure a safe and productive work environment.
Perform related duties as required or directed by the supervisor.
Qualifications: High school or GED; experience in repair and maintenance; or any
equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the necessary skills and
knowledge sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of this position. ASE certification
preferred, but not mandatory. Able to obtain CDL Class B Driver’s License with airbrake endorsement. Within the first six months. Valid KS Driver’s License required.
Salary: $30.54/hr.
