The Noxious Weeds Supervisor is responsible for performing a variety of duties that are mandated by the Kansas Department of Agriculture, including but not limited to annual property surveys for noxious weeds, issuing cost share certificates, issuing noxious weed violations in addition to the maintaining the ROW on County roads including but not limited to: mowing, brush and tree removal, noxious weed eradication, seeding and guardrail vegetation removal.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs and supervises those who perform maintenance activities on the County road system including but not limited to brush removal, mowing, and noxious weed eradication.
- Distributes daily assignments to assigned workers and determines priorities for meeting deadlines.
- Inspects and reviews work of crews in order to ensure that corrections, adjustments, or changes are complete.
- Coordinates the activities of various units within the division to ensure work flows smoothly between individuals and that the work complies with policies and procedures.
- Instruct crews on proper completion of tasks.
- Analyzes production statistics, reports, and implements procedure modification to ensure high levels of productivity and efficiency.
- Documents and maintains records of work crew operations including projects completed, materials used, and total amount of labor time used to complete the project.
- Ensures work crews have proper tools and equipment, that the equipment is operation properly, and oversees the repair of malfunctioning equipment.
- Inspect properties for noxious weed infestations.
- Assist landowners with the eradication of noxious weeds on their property including to proper use of chemicals and other options.
- Issue Noxious Weed Cost-Shares.
- Issue Noxious Weed violations including follow up correspondence and site visits.
- Supervising a brush and tree removal crew including trash pickup.
- Supervises the operation of the Household Hazardous Waste facility and assure compliance with KDHE regulations.
- Prepare the HHW Monthly Report
- Prepare the monthly Noxious Weed Reports
- Attend Southeast Kansas Noxious Weed Directors Meeting
- Prepare the HHW Annual Report.
- Prepare the Noxious Weed Directors Plan and Eradication Report
- Attend Noxious Weed Director's Annual Meeting
- Manage and prepare the HHW Permit renewal.
- Kansas Department of Agriculture – Noxious Weed Director renewal form and reports.
- Spraying of chemicals on guardrail and other areas requiring bare good application.
- Assist in snow and ice removal during winter events.
Position Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; a degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; plus 1-3 years of related experience generally preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required, CDL preferred.
- Commercial application license, completion of Department of Agriculture Basic Weed School and completion of Commercial Applicators test in the following categories: 9A, 7C and 6. HHW 24-hour course and continuing education to maintain certifications.
Knowledge:
- Computer software programs and applications such as MS Office.
- Operating procedures for all equipment assigned.
- Knowledge of laws and ordinances in related field.
