JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Public Works Fleet Division is seeking a Fleet Maintenance Technician I to join the team. This position performs maintenance and repairs on Unified Government-owned vehicles & equipment. This role is responsible for diagnosing issues, completing repairs, and ensuring safe and efficient operation of the fleet.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform maintenance and major repairs on gasoline and diesel engines, manual and automatic transmissions, differentials, brakes, suspension systems, electrical systems, fuel systems, cooling systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Conduct chassis and suspension repairs, including alignments as needed.
- Service automotive and vehicle air conditioning systems (requires proper certification).
- Perform welding and fabricating tasks as needed.
- Provide emergency road service when required.
- Operate equipment during emergencies within Wyandotte County.
- Assist other technicians and support division operations as directed by the supervisor, including tasks related to the car wash, fuel pumps, gates, and other assigned duties.
- Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school or GED; experience in repair and maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the necessary skills and knowledge sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of this position. ASE certification is preferred, but not mandatory. Able to obtain CDL Class B Drivers License with airbrake endorsement within the first six months. Valid KS Driver’s License is required.
Salary Range:
$26.56/hr.
