Summary of the Position:
The Maintenance Tech IV performs advanced maintenance and repair tasks for public infrastructure, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, irrigation, HVAC systems, and playground equipment. This position also includes supervising maintenance crews, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and managing specialized equipment for park and facility upkeep.
Job Description:
Perform advanced carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and masonry work on public facilities.
Ensure compliance with National Playground Safety Standards, including inspections and repairs of playground equipment.
Perform high-level repairs to HVAC systems and maintain air quality and climate control in facilities.
Install, troubleshoot, and repair complex irrigation control systems.
Provide guidance to lower-level maintenance technicians on specialized tasks and projects.
Operate heavy equipment, such as excavators and skid steer loaders, for park and facility construction and maintenance.
Maintain and repair aquatic facility systems, including pools and splash pads.
Attention to detail and ability to maintain organized records of inspections and repairs.
Perform seasonal duties, including winterization of park facilities.
Assist with the removal of snow and debris from parks and job sites.
Provide direction and oversight to ensure efficient and effective completion of maintenance projects.
Perform other related duties as required or directed.
Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of maintenance and repair techniques for carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems and masonry.
Advanced knowledge of aquatic facility systems, including pools and splash pads.
Advanced understanding of irrigation system installation and troubleshooting.
Knowledge of playground equipment safety and compliance with National Playground Safety Standards.
Familiarity with operating heavy machinery and specialized maintenance equipment.
Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations for public facility maintenance.
Skills:
Ability to operate and maintain a variety of tools, heavy machinery, and maintenance equipment.
Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for complex systems (pools, splashpads, HVAC systems, irrigation, playgrounds).
Strong leadership and communication skills to manage and guide maintenance teams.
Attention to detail and a focus on ensuring safety and compliance with industry standards.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks.
Strong organizational and documentation skills.
Qualifications:
High School or G.E.D required; or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties such as those listed above. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to perform manual labor tasks in outdoor settings and various weather conditions, including lifting, bending, pulling, and operating equipment. Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) Certification. Certified Playground Safety Inspector Certification (CPSI). Valid Kansas CDL Class B with air brakes or ability to obtain within 6 months. Valid Kansas driver’s license and acceptable driving record per the Unified Government’s Human Resources Driver Safety, Accident Reporting, and Vehicle Use policy throughout employment with the Unified Government. Must be a resident of Wyandotte County or willing to relocate within 12 months of the date of hire. Must be able to pass a criminal background check
Preferred Qualifications:
Backflow Inspector Certification.
OSHA or safety certification related to construction or facility maintenance.
Experience with electrical systems, including high voltage maintenance and troubleshooting.
Experience in advanced HVAC troubleshooting and energy-efficient system maintenance.
Knowledge of sustainable maintenance practices for public infrastructure.
Salary Range:
$29.46/hr.
