AVIATION DEPARTMENT SAFETY RISK MANAGER (SAFETY MANAGER)

Full-time position available with the Aviation Department, Safety Division, located at 601 Brasilia Ave.
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00a.m.-5:00p.m.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develops, implements, and maintains effective safety and loss control programs and initiatives to reduce the frequency and severity of occupational injuries and illnesses among the Aviation employees.
• Assigns the work of and supervises subordinate safety employees; trains staff on developing safety education programs; the methods of inspecting unsafe or hazardous equipment, facilities or work environmental report writing; applicable safety regulations and the interpretation of and application of safety regulations.
• Manages the development, implementation and maintenance of the SMS program in accordance with FAA regulations and industry best practices.
• Monitors and reports on safety performance indicators and metrics.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, standards and guidelines. Assists with the administration and coordination of the City's transitional Duty Assignment Program for injured workers, On-line Safety Education Programs, classroom safety education classes, and other specific safety courses.
• Schedules and conducts regular safety audits at Aviation facilities and prepares reports for departments containing photos, details and recommendations for the abatement of hazardous conditions and unsafe practices.
• Conducts observations with work groups in the field to address safety concerns including but not limited to the identification of site-specific hazards and the selection of appropriate PPE.
• Maintains databases of vehicular or industrial accidents, assesses causes of accidents and determines if accidents were preventable and performs trend studies; provides various routine and ad hoc reports to managers; serves on department’s safety review committee.
• Develops and presents safety and accident prevention programs for Aviation employees, civic groups and the general public focusing on reducing the incidence of accidents.
• Evaluates effectiveness of current safety programs; recommends and implements program modifications and corrective action.
• Provides thorough knowledge of current occupational safety and health standards; best practices and the skills to identify occupational hazards; and the ability to make appropriate recommendations for abatement.
•Performs other duties as assigned
Important information:
• Must successfully complete a 10-year FAA background check.
• Must be available 24/7 for emergencies and inclement weather events.
• Must successfully obtain and maintain an MCI Issued AOA Movement Area Badge with driving privileges. Valid Driver’s License required.
REQUIRES high school graduation and 6 years of experience in safety, health or environmental work; OR an accredited Associate's degree and 4 year of professional experience in safety, health, or environmental work; OR an accredited Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience in safety, health, or environmental work. The experience may be waived upon presentation of the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation or the Certified Industrial Hygiene (CIH) designation. May be required to pass a preemployment drug screen.
Salary Starting at: $6,489/month
