Job Summary: Operates and maintains light and medium-duty equipment used in street and water operations; assists with street repairs, water main breaks, meter replacements, and utility maintenance; performs preventive maintenance on equipment; and supports safe, efficient public works operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Equipment Operation: Operate skid steer, front loader, mini excavator, tractor, mower, paver, roller, street sweeper, snow plow, dump truck, and related equipment to complete assigned work.
• Street Maintenance and Repair: Assist with pothole repair, street patching, milling, slot cutting, paving, crack sealing, and roadway cleanup.
• Snow and Ice Control: Plow snow, spread salt and sand, and operate winter maintenance equipment during weather events.
• Water Main and Service Repair: Assist with locating leaks, excavating water main breaks, installing and repairing services, replacing hydrants, and restoring disturbed areas.
• Meter Maintenance and Replacement: Replace water meters, adjust meter pits, lids, and risers, insulate meters, and repair or rewire meter nodes.
• Utility Locates and Marking: Call in locates to 811; locate and mark water mains and storm drains; and support Missouri One Call requests.
• Equipment Maintenance: Perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs on vehicles, equipment, and tools; inspect equipment and report defects.
• Field Support and Site Prep: Prepare job sites for repair work; clean ditches and drains; set up work zones; and assist with traffic control.
• Facility Maintenance: Clean and maintain public works buildings, yards, and equipment storage areas.
• Public Interaction: Communicate with citizens regarding service issues, street work, and water repairs; provide courteous customer service.
• Emergency Response: Respond to after-hours calls, water breaks, and severe weather events as needed.
• Cross-Department Support: Assist wastewater operations, lift stations, and utility crews as assigned.

Occupational Certificates / Licenses:
• Must possess a valid Missouri driver’s license. CDL preferred or ability to obtain.
