The Juvenile Card Coordinator works with juveniles and their families referred to the Immediate Intervention Program (IIP), who come through the Juvenile Intake and Assessment program, are placed in custody of KDOC-JS, assigned to Juvenile Intensive Supervised Probation, or are released from the Juvenile Correctional Facility on Condition Release. The juvenile care coordinator will specialize in assisting juvenile offenders and their families with community bases services and/or evidence- based programming. Provide tools to help youth remain in home or reintegrate back into the community, assist in developing community support that focuses on the specific needs of the youth and family and work with all parties to help the youth and family achieve success both during and after supervision. Also provide programming classes to juveniles within the sixth judicial district. Works under general supervision.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Provide support and coordinate services and programing to youth and families.
- Deliver service, support and programming that is individualized to each youth and family.
- Identify, coordinate, and facilitate youth and family team meetings and care planning.
- Maintain accurate and concise documentation of contacts made with the youth, family, team members, community providers, Juvenile Intensive Supervision Officer and those involved in programming.
- Perform work related duties in accordance with the agency's policy and procedures / KDOC-JS state standards.
- Respond to phone messages and emails for referrals on youth to the program.
- Assist staff in answering the telephone and door.
- Obtain needed community services for youth and families.
- Assist youth and families in completing referrals and obtaining needed services.
- Provide the Deputy Director / Director with weekly reports.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community partners / agencies to collaborate for the need of youth and family services and programs.
- Reach out to stakeholders in the Sixth Judicial District to educate our programs and services.
- Attend Court hearing for juveniles when available to become familiar with the proceedings.
- Provide the Director with monthly spreadsheet report by the 10th of each month.
- Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
- Complete 40 hours of training each year per KDOC-JS standards.
- Update forms as needed for the programming and services offered.
- Assist the Director in reviewing policy and procedures per KDOC standards.
- Assist the Juvenile Supervision Officer (JSO) in identifying and addressing needs of youth and families referred.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community partners/agencies to collaborate for needed youth and family services and programs.
- Maintain data, statistics or reports as requested by the Director.
- Assist with Juvenile Intake and Assessment Services, Immediate Intervention Program, Juvenile Intensive Supervised Probation youth as needed.
- Sign and adhere to all necessary forms provided by agency.
- Develop; implement and conduct evidence-based programs for juvenile offenders.
- Assessment of youth and family to determine needs.
- Identify gaps in community-based services and programming in the Sixth Judicial District.
- Assist with transportation of youth as needed for services and/or programming within the agency.
- Provide crisis management when needed.
Position Requirements:- Must be 21 years of age or older,
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, criminal justice and/or corrections, sociology, counseling, human relations, or related field preferred.
- One year of related experience for one-year education, practicum and internships may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Must be qualified for access to any Kansas Criminal Justice Information System (KCJIS) data, submit to and pass a KBI background check and Child and Adult Abuse Central Registry check prior to employment, annually for the duration of employment and whenever there is reasonable belief that an employee’s criminal history status has changed, must be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment, submit a valid driver’s license that shall be verified prior to initial employment, annually for the duration of employment and whenever there is reasonable belief that an employee’s driver’s license status has changed, complete any required screenings or tests by the hired county, be free of any felony conviction or adjudication in this or any other state or in any military tribunal.
Knowledge:- Computer software programs and applications such as MS Office.
- County and/or city government administration.
- Comprehensive knowledge in the area of juvenile corrections, available community-based services, youth, and family agencies and how they function, (such as schools, mental health, social services, child welfare, etc.) and evidence-based programs.

- Must be skilled in working with juvenile offender youth and their families provide client interaction, relations, and communication with other professionals in and out of the agency. Must have computer experience, good communication and record keeping skills. Extensive problem-solving skills. Problem areas include and are not limited to multi-agency issues, scheduling issues, program implementation issues and community resources.
