Under the general direction of the Fiscal Services Manager, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of confidential duties related to payroll and timekeeping for all city departments including processing the payroll function (both bi-weekly and monthly) accurately and on time. In conjunction with, and with oversight from the Payroll Administrator, ensures that bi-weekly and monthly payrolls are processed in accordance with all laws, regulations and City policy; prepares various payroll-related regulatory as well as internal reports; assists Human Resources (HR) and all city employees and managers with all timekeeping and payroll related questions and concerns. This position will serve as the payroll specialist, assisting the Payroll Administrator with day to day duties as well as entering all payroll data required to effectively and efficiently process payroll. Position will also be required to assist with other duties in the Finance Department as time allows. High school diploma or GED supplemented by formal coursework in accounting, business or related subjects with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in payroll processing or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, ability and skill.
