• Reviews the design work of consulting design professionals and engineers retained by the department; provides technical approval for such work and submits results to supervisor/Deputy Director for approval and enactment.
• Reviews contract documents and bid proposals from an engineering standpoint for construction projects at the municipal airports.
• Prepares rough design layouts and preliminary cost estimates for additions and improvements to the airport environment; assists in the preparation and presentation of the annual capital budget for the airports.
• Acts in a liaison capacity in conferring with federal aviation agencies, municipal departments, and representatives of other agencies and outside engineering and contracting firms.
• Prepares exhibit drawings for leases and special studies.
• Manages, organizes, and directs administration of the assigned work related to the design, engineering, and construction for final acceptance of the project.
• Directs and coordinates with contractors, company supervisors and personnel of enhanced engineering design and construction projects.
• Reviews and ensures proper adherence to program drawings and specifications for current aviation facilities and airfield projects.
• Manages on-site inspections of construction projects to ensure on-time and on-budget for the betterment of the Aviation Department – Roadways, bridges, terminal, drainage, paving, parking lots, airfield paving, runways, taxiways, and Overhaul Base needs are all part of the activity of the tasks but limited to MCI or MKC facilities.
• Consults with Deputy Director to communicate any critical or shortfalls in funding or schedule requirements of the projects.
• Manages and coordinates with airport tenants but not limited to ATCT (air traffic control tower), aviation divisions, FAA, TSA, OHB tenants, air cargo tenants and all construction companies to maintain the policies and planning /engineering principles related to the airport design and construction (existing facilities and new airport needs).
• Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRES
• an accredited Bachelor’s degree in engineering and
• 3 years professional experience in the design and construction of airport facilities.
• Ability to pass 10-year TSA Background Check
• Preference given to candidates that have obtained EIT (Engineering in Training) and Longevity and expertise of knowing design, construction, management and installation of projects for the methods and principles to complete a safe and regulated project to the success, deemed by the Aviation Dept.
