Compensation: $1,000 per month stipend, plus $50 monthly mileage stipend. Observe and assist in the planning and organization of comprehensive recreation services provided through the divisions of aquatics, athletics, youth enrichment, special events, teens, community health and wellness, adults and community centers. Also observes and assists in the division of parks construction and operations division and administration. Minimum qualifications include minimum 75 credit hours or are in their junior or senior years pursuing a degree in Parks and Recreation. Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and communication skills. Valid state driver’s license. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age. This position will be scheduled 40 hours a week working varied hours and days. Job Scope To gain a comprehensive experience of the parks and recreation profession through observation and hands-on experiences in recreation programming, special events, community center operations, aquatics, park maintenance and construction, camps and administration. Responsible for the completion of a special project(s). Essential Duties and Responsibilities Visits, observes, and participates in different phases of the agency’s facilities, programs, and operations. Works with department supervisors to assist, shadow and/or perform assigned tasks for each division and/or facility within the department including: recreation, administration, and parks construction and operations. Provides excellent patron service and maintains a positive public image by addressing questions and concerns from staff, patrons, participants, and parents immediately. Plans thoroughly in advance for all assignments. Communicate openly, honestly, and professionally at all times. Directly assists with events, programs, and facility operations. Complete and present a special project(s) prior to the completion of the internship. Ensures the enforcement of park and recreation rules and regulations. Performs those activities necessary to insure the safety of participants. Attends meetings associated with the department and affiliated groups: including, department staff meetings and staff and coach training/meetings. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
