Basic Information
- Reports to Delivery Services Supervisor.
- 40 hours per week; nonexempt.
- $16.93 per hour, plus benefits.
Schedule
Monday - Friday: 8:30 am - 5 pm
One Saturday per month.
Location
Central Library: 14 W 10th Street, KCMO, 64105.
Job Duties
Essential Functions
- Pulls items for patron hold requests and processes holds using a sorting machine.
- Discharges and receives returned and incoming materials.
- Sorts and accurately shelves materials, while keeping library neat and orderly.
- Reads shelves for proper order of materials; shifts materials when necessary.
- Searches for missing & in-transit items.
- Ensures holds are taken up to self pick-up shelves in a timely manner.
- Interacts with library staff & patrons with respect, honesty, and willingness to serve.
- Performs other related work and undertakes special projects as assigned.
- Maintains general order and appearance of library; straightens shelves in all areas, clears tables, marks items used.
- Makes judgment calls on condition of items for weeding, sends to supervisor.
- Replaces & reproduces barcodes and location labels when needed.
- Assist with the changing of New Books to circulating when necessary; changes item records when needed; corrects and prints new call number when needed.
- Basic to moderate computer skills.
- Ability to learn AMH processes, and troubleshoot issues, using proper safety regulations.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Requirements
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
- Able to move book trucks up to 100 lbs.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Able to shelve on low and high shelves.
- Able to perform job requirements in busy, noisy environments, and tight spaces.
Required Education and Experience
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Ability to understand, speak, and communicate clearly and concisely in English is required. Additional consideration will be given to individuals that are proficient in any non-English languages utilized in Jackson County, MO, including Spanish, American Sign Language, Vietnamese, French, Arabic, and Swahili.
Work Environment
Work is performed at the Central Library location. Primary workspace is shared with co-workers in an office space within the building. Other work might be performed in a public space amongst staff and patrons from a diverse socio-economic community.
