JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Environmental Services Division within Public Works is seeking an Operations General Superintendent to lead sewer maintenance operations. This position oversees daily sewer maintenance activities, including preventive maintenance programs, CCTV inspections, emergency response efforts, equipment operations, and regulatory compliance. This position leads field personnel, coordinates operational activities, and ensures the safe and efficient functioning of wastewater and stormwater collection systems. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong leadership, operational planning, sound judgment, and decision-making abilities in field environments while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, safety standards, and policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate daily sewer maintenance operations and field activities.
Plan, organize, and oversee preventive maintenance programs for wastewater and stormwater collection systems.
Oversee CCTV inspection operations, including downloading, reviewing, and maintaining inspection videos and records.
Coordinate emergency response activities related to sewer system failures, backups, and stormwater issues.
Assign work tasks, monitor crew productivity, and ensure quality performance standards are met.
Supervise and support field crews, providing leadership, training, and performance guidance.
Enforce departmental safety procedures and ensure compliance with OSHA and Public Works safety standards.
Coordinate repairs, inspections, maintenance schedules, and operational activities with internal divisions and external contractors as needed.
Monitor equipment operations and ensure proper use and maintenance of vehicles, tools, and specialized sewer maintenance equipment.
Maintain operational records, reports, and documentation related to maintenance and inspection activities.
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, local ordinances, and departmental policies and procedures.
Exercise sound judgment and decision-making during field operations and emergency situations.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree (G.E.D.) and several years' experience in area of assignment; or a bachelor’s degree in related field and experience in area of assignment; or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Four years of utility maintenance experience, involving sewer repair, maintenance operations, equipment operation, and safety practices preferred. Candidates should have knowledge of storm and sanitary sewer collection systems, CCTV inspection software and equipment, supervisory practices, and workplace safety procedures. Strong leadership, communication, recordkeeping, and team-building skills are essential, along with the ability to read system maps and maintain effective working relationships. A valid Class B CDL is required, and the successful candidate must obtain a Collections System Operator Class IV Certification, Class III Wastewater Operator Certification.
Salary Range:
$29.21 - $39.06/hr.
