WHAT YOU'LL DO
Street Maintenance
- Assist with repairs, patching, and maintenance for the City’s asphalt and concrete foundations
- Operate and maintain tools and equipment used in roadwork and construction
- Support preparation, placement, and finishing of asphalt and concrete surfaces
Teamwork & Field Operations
- Work closely with crew members to complete projects safely and efficiently
- Follow direction from leadership while contributing to a positive team environment
- Help set up traffic control and maintain safe work zones
General Maintenance & Support
- Perform routine maintenance on streets, sidewalks, and related infrastructure
- Assist with snow removal, storm response, and other seasonal Public Works activities
- Maintain equipment and report any issues or needed repairs

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
PREFERRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED
- Experience in asphalt and/or concrete work, construction, or general maintenance
- Experience operating equipment such as dump trucks, rollers, or skid steers
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe
SCHEDULE & WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Typical schedule: four 10-hour shifts, 6:00am – 4:30pm (may vary by project)
- Overtime opportunities may occur during peak work periods, snow/ice events, or emergency response
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions
- This is a physically active, hands-on role with a team that relies on each other every day
PAY & BENEFITS
- Starting Rate of Pay: $22.06 - $25.00 hourly, depending on qualifications
- Retirement options: Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS) and 457(b) options
- Insurance benefits: begins the first day of the month after you start
- Paid Time Off: vacation, sick, and personal leave plus holidays
