Job Description:
The Public Works Street Maintenance team is seeking a Flare Technician II to join their team. The Flare Technician II is responsible for ensuring the proper placement, maintenance, and documentation of barricades and other safety traffic control devices throughout the city. The technician will respond to after-hours service calls, communicate updates to leadership, and perform general roadway maintenance tasks, including debris removal and support during winter weather operations. Work schedule will be Saturday to Wednesday, evening shift and may change due to staffing.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspect and verify proper placement of barricades and road plates across the city.
Track and log all barricade and road plate placements and removals.
Construct and repairs barricades.
Set up temporary traffic control devices for planned and emergency operations.
Respond to after-hours service calls and provide timely updates to management.
Remove debris and other obstructions from roadways and rights-of-way.
Assist with winter weather operations, including snow and ice response.
Operate and maintain powered hand tools such as chainsaws, weed eaters, and leaf blowers.
Maintain daily log sheets and activity reports.
Utilize basic computer skills for documentation and reporting.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of this position. Must possess a valid CDL and automobile insurance. Knowledge of Kansas City, KS streets is preferred. Ability to operate a two-way radio and follow oral and written instructions. Capable of standing, sitting, or walking for extended periods and performing physical labor, including lifting, carrying, or dragging objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to analyze work conditions, recognize safety hazards, and respond appropriately to ensure a safe work environment. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team in a variety of weather and field conditions, often with exposure to noise.
Salary Range:
$24.97/ hr.
