Under the leadership of the Director of Human Resources, the Payroll Supervisor oversees the accurate and timely processing of employee payroll, ensuring adherence to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. The Payroll Supervisor manages the payroll specialist, coordinates the collection of timekeeping and absence data, resolves any discrepancies related to payroll, and securely prepares and maintains reports and records, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and City policies. Additionally, the Payroll Supervisor configures and maintains system settings for payroll to ensure accurate and efficient payroll operations. The ideal candidate will work with city employees from all levels to understand their checks and payroll processes by answering any questions they may have to facilitate clear communication and understanding. This position will conduct year-end tax reporting and ensure accurate financial documentation and perform compliance tasks to comply with all regulatory standards and requirements and maintain organizational accountability. The midpoint of the salary range for this role is $31.42 per hour, with actual pay based on experience, education, and skills. This position requires comprehensive knowledge of payroll regulations and compliance with local, state, and federal laws, and extensive knowledge of payroll system integration with finance, human resources, and benefits. Prior experience with Workday is preferred. Knowledge is typically acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, human resources management, or a related field, along with a minimum of three to five years of direct payroll experience. Experience working in a unionized environment and public sector is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical and organizational abilities, and the demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of the organization.
