Requirements: Key Job Duties: Duties and Assignments become more complex among the Staff Engineer and Senior Staff Engineer position. Reviews, evaluates, and provides comments and recommendations to consultants or applicants on development plans, engineering studies, and reports. Performs periodic site visits during the preliminary design through the construction phase as needed. Collaborates with the field engineering inspectors on infrastructure construction projects and approves field revisions. Analyzes reports and studies submitted in response to Planning Commission or City Council stipulations, or to city staff requests to further define the impact of a project on infrastructure and neighboring properties. Studies may include but are not limited to: stormwater management, flood studies, bank stability studies, and traffic impact studies. Meets with developers, engineers, contractors, the public, and city staff on proposed or active development projects. Meetings may include coordination, explanation of city requirements, face-to-face review of comments made by city staff, and/or approvals. Participates as a member of the Development Review Committee team for work on development proposals with planners, project managers, and others throughout various departments of the City. Coordinates periodic updates to the City’s Design and Construction Manual, Unified Development Ordinance, and various other engineering standards and policies. Our Ideal Candidate Has: Staff Engineer: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related field and possession of EIT Certificate. One (1) year of experience preferred. A valid state Motor Vehicle Operator’s license is also required. Senior Staff Engineer: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related field with five (5) years of experience. A Master’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related field may substitute for experience. Licensure as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri is required. If licensed in another state, must become licensed in the State of Missouri within 6 months of hire. A valid state Motor Vehicle Operator’s license is also required.
